In early March 2013, information was compiled on West Coast USA hackerspace participant Shawn Landden showing that he had a history of interaction with law enforcement, including arrests for domestic violence, violation of restraining orders and criminal trespass. Hackerspaces compiled additional internal info on his behaviours in their spaces, and some communities expelled Shawn from attending their spaces.

Expulsion from Noisebridge

Shawn L was expelled from San Francisco hackerspace Noisebridge in March.

  1. On March 8, Danny O'Brien asked that anyone seeing Shawn ask him to leave Noisebridge immediately. (Danny later explained the role this kind of request plays in Noisebridge: it is designed to defuse an escalating situation for later resolution.)
  2. On March 13, Danny informed Shawn L publicly that Noisebridge was meeting to try and seek consensus on his permanent exclusion, citing an additional (not public) document with allegations of bad behaviour by ten Noisebridge members
  3. On March 21, Snail announced that the outcome of the meeting was to exclude Shawn from physical and digital Noisebridge spaces (meeting notes)
