Basically that conservative people may not be open to dialogue. The expression is a place-holder for "I don't want to reason or question my current assumptions at any cost, even though I know that other advanced opinions exist". "advanced" is used because of conditioning. In many South east Asian cultures, anything Western may be seen as "advanced".
