Posts and resources to accompany videos developed by Feminist Frequency. Sarkeesian founded the non-profit organisation and website Feminist Frequency in 2009. She created the site in an effort to create accessible feminist media criticism, and videos created for the site analysed social and cultural gender structures and popular culture from a feminist perspective, such as applying the Bechdel Test to images nominated for the 84th Academy Awards in 2012 and highlighting Lego's role in reinforcing cultural norms. In 2011, Sarkeesian partnered with Bitch magazine to create the video series Tropes vs. Women. The series examined common tropes in the portrayal of women in media, with a particular focus on science fiction. The series includes six videos dedicated to tropes such as the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Women in Refrigerators, and the Smurfette Principle. In 2011, Sarkeesian co-authored the essay "Buffy vs. Bella: The Re-Emergence of the Archetypal Feminine in Vampire Stories" for the anthology Fanpires: Audience Consumption of the Modern Vampire. She has spoken at conferences and workshops on media criticism and video blogging, and was interviewed about modern media culture by the British Sunday newspaper The Observer in March 2012, stating "I think to the extent that it could create authentic, human female characters, it's a push towards a more feminist media."

On 01 August 2023, Anita Sarkeesian announced that she was shutting down Feminist Frequency and the Games and Online Harassment Hotline, which was launched in 2021. She cited exhaustion and self-care as reasons for the closure.
