The 2013 Eaton Science Fiction Conference, which is co-sponsored with the Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA), will examine science fiction in multiple media. It will be held April 11 to April 14, 2013 at the Riverside Marriott Hotel in California.
About the Eaton Science Fiction Conference
University of California Riverside's Eaton Science Fiction Conference is a national academic conference devoted to the study of all aspects of science fiction as a literary genre and social phenomenon. Establishing science fiction studies as a serious academic discipline, it brings together many participants including, but not limited to, academics from a wide range of disciplines, writers, critics, editors, fans and independent scholars.
The 2013 Science Fiction Media Conference
The 2013 Science Fiction Media Conference features a few session panels dealing with gender, feminism, sexuality and race within science fiction media and fandom. Some of the session titles include: Gender Roles and Masquerade; Science Fiction Fan Cultures and Feminist Critique; Rethinking Gender; Race and Afrofuturism in Music and Television; Octavia E. Butler; Contemporary Queer Theories and Science Fiction; Rewriting Colonial Histories; Afrofuturism in Art, Television and Comics; Queering the Genre; and Ethnicity and Hybridity in Science Fiction.
The J. Lloyd Eaton Lifetime Achievement Award in Science Fiction
The J. Lloyd Eaton Lifetime Achievement Award in Science Fiction for 2012 and 2013 will be presented during the 2013 Awards Banquet. The 2012 recipient is Ursula K. Le Guin, and the 2013 recipients are Stan Lee, and Ray Harryhausen. Past winners include:
