Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging to draw attention to women excelling in technology created by Suw Charman-Anderson, named in honour of Ada Lovelace.
Ada Lovelace Day has been held in five consecutive years, on March 24 2009, March 24 2010, October 7 2011, October 16 2012 and October 15, 2013. There is no significance to the dates chosen. (Ada Lovelace's birthday is December 10 and the anniversary of her death is November 27.)
The first Ada Lovelace Day started with a pledge by Suw Charman-Anderson to blog about a woman in tech who inspired her, if 1000 people would do likewise. Nearly 2000 people signed the pledge. Recent Ada Lovelace Days have included activities like Wikipedia edit-a-thons to add and improve biographical articles about women technologists.
Ada Lovelace Day will be next held on October 14, 2014.
