LinuxChix is an international organisation for women who use Linux and women and men who want to support women in computing. It was founded in 1999 by Deb Richardson and has been continuously active since, although activity on its mailing lists has drastically dwindled since about 2011 or 2012.
Community
The international group runs English language email lists (both technical and social) and technical courses. There are many 'chapter' groups for women living in specific areas which have their own lists and organise in-person events.
Relationship to Open Source community
LinuxChix members aren't all Open Source developers and not all female Open Source developers are members of LinuxChix. LinuxChix is designed for users of Open Source software just as much as developers.
Prominent members of or volunteers in LinuxChix include: Akkana Peck, Sulamita Garcia, Carla Schroder, Jacinta Richardson and Terri Oda.
