The RubyKaigi 2013 kawaii incident was an incident where a speaker at RubyKaigi 2013, promoting visiting RubyConf Taiwan 2014, said that "Taiwanese girls are ‘kawaii'". The reaction of the crowd to this comment was very positive, rather than disapproving of the comment. This incident was noted by Peter Evjan, writing the blog post RubyKaigi 2013 – great conference, but I probably wouldn’t go next year if I was a woman.
The organizers of RubyKaigi subsequently produced a blog post We apologize, which while not mentioning the specific incident, gave an apology.
