I'm a little skeptical about emphasizing that "someone was hurt." It seems to go into "I'm sorry you were offended" territory. If someone says or does something sexist, the main issue is that they said or did something sexist. Other people's reactions to the sexism aren't the reason why it was wrong. That was my initial gut reaction too.  However, I think it depends on the individual.  I've added a bit of nuance.
