I'm noticing some external linking going on for the names here. Should we not be using wiki linking, and having the external links to their information on the wiki page created for their name? I think some consistency would be good. Elky 13:02, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think we should aim for all wiki links yes. But the external linking isn't necessarily a terrible start, as it's a jumping off point for research into that person. That may be more useful than a red link to their name. I guess I'm saying: if all you have time to do is external link someone, do it. But other editors should replace with bios on this wiki. - Michael, the information about these women and the kind of stuff that goes into their bios is readily available on the internet and is non-controversial; here's one I made last night: Vid Ayer. If Vid wants to come and expand her bio that's fine, but as I already said in email, we are not going to have an opt-in policy for wiki pages about people who publicly contribute to open source. --Skud 16:48, September 17, 2009 (UTC)
Inclusion
Skud and I talked about this out of band, and essentially the conclusion was that we will not seek explicit permission to list women publicly contributing to FOSS on this list. However we shouldn't rely on non-public sources to:
- identify someone as a woman if we only know her to be such due to private information
- link online names to real names without a public source (ie, if a woman contributes entirely using a nick, we should use the nick too)
- identify a woman's employer or geographic location unless it's public information
Essentially we aim for about the same level and type of detail that would be included in a conference biography. Thayvian 07:30, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
