Concern about wording
I read our wording "even comparing the incident to the plight of a Muslim woman" as buying into the narrative of Muslim women as being universally oppressed, one which Muslim women and feminists object quite strongly to. I'd prefer wording that calls this out explicitly against Dawkins to wording that (at least to me) reads as "comparing Watson to a Muslim woman is demeaning to Watson" or "Watson is not as oppressed as Muslim women, but her complaint is still valid." - I apologize. I did not mean it that way at all, and I have no objection to reframing the article as you see fit. My edits will usually take a more contentious tone when it comes to sexist men. Anyway, to clarify: I think Dawkins, firmly ensconced in his comfortable privileged white male world had some gall invoking a hypothetical Muslim girl as a way of making his point. That level of splaining, appropriation, and even Islamophobia was one of the grossest displays of disingenuousness I'd seen in a long time. The disdain was not meant to demean anybody but Dawkins and his faux concern for mythical women he couldn't give two shits about. I apologize and will be more mindful in future edits. - Sounds like we have similar sentiments. I'll work on an edit to make sure it comes across in the article! Thayvian (talk) 02:36, January 29, 2014 (UTC)
