Delete Page

Hey Skud. Quick question. Can we delete the page Roleplaying games? We had a duplicate page called Roleplaying Games (yay case sensitive) and I condensed the first into the second. Koipond 07:17, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

You should redirect instead. --Skud 22:27, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Female characters

Oh hey! Thanks for the pointer to Strong female characters et al. I thought it really strange that I couldn't find anything in the wiki about how female characters are drawn up in games, SFF, and the like. ^^; RickScott 15:03, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, there's still a lot more to be said on the subject! But that's what we've got so far. --Skud 19:48, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Nono, the fail is all with me! ^^; Don't know why it didn't occur to me to look through Special:AllPages or use that funny search-box-thingy. RickScott 02:37, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

wildnfree from ubuntu-women

Hi Skud

I added myself to the list of women in Open Source as well.

Best wishes, Helen (wildnfree)

First DIOS

On http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_geek_feminism - Can I list the first Diversity in Open Source Workshop being held at Ohio LinuxFest in a couple weeks? http://www.ohiolinux.org/dios.html I don't want to appear to be pimping but it's an outgrowth of the WIOS idea and, I think, new and different to OSS conferences.

Yes, of course! Please go ahead. --Skud 22:25, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Spelling

Question: Does this wiki use U.S. or U.K. spelling as its standard? I have noticed discrepancies and am unsure how to proceed. Also, are there any major differences between this wiki's accepted format and the general Wikipedia model adapted by Wikia? I ask because Nonsexist language uses the largest variety of header, and my first instinct is to lower them to the second largest as is the general standard across wikis. --Dragonclaws(talk) 02:45, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

There is no standard. Use either as you feel comfortable, but don't change others' gratuitously. --Skud 03:45, September 15, 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Thank you for answering. --Dragonclaws(talk) 03:47, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

My pleasure

Blog post idea

Hello, I have been working on a series blog posts about our wikis, and wanted to include Geek Feminism wiki, since it is such a great resource. If you have any facts, stories or links that you want included, let me know! Thanks for all your work here. Cheers, --Sarah (talk 23:41, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Sarah. I'll gather suggestions here and then comment on your talk page with what we come up with. One thing probably worth mentioning is that we have an accompanying blog at http://geekfeminism.org/ --Skud 02:07, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
Okay, great, thanks! Best, --Sarah (talk 19:18, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

Wikianswers widget

I was just adapting the text for the Wikianswers widget. This has been live on the site for some time but wasn't previously showing many questions as it was set to show questions in wikianswers:category:Geek Feminism Wiki. I've changed that to show questions in wikianswers:category:Feminism and made the text around the widget more relevant. Previously it used the default text from here and here and now it shows this and this. Is that ok? If you don't see the widget, you can choose to view it by going to manage widgets which is under the more menu in the top right corner (of the monaco skin). some links

Hi,

i'm just an occasional reader of this wiki and a very light gamer, the only communities I know are the one I did choose (totalitarian chief of a 2 years autarcik adult gender balanced guild or with real friends) and I'm not in IT industry or else, so I'm not facing the "geekfeminist" issues more than in other spheres of my life. I follow some times the escapist and find today two articles, of course the most interesting things are in the forum. One of them had a pretty clear testimony about some of the issues a woman might find. I'm not that good at english and won't take part in any discussion I can fairly understand and talk about with a good choice of word so I send you the links (first name on the list of the members).

Thank you for this wiki.

Oh, sorry

Just didn't notice your answer on anonymous msgs.. I am dumb. :(

So, I didn't mean to attack your oppinion, but ask some questions. I thought, it would be more correct if "other" flipside of a problem could be represented here. My point is: Could it be, that women might in future "overpower" men just like men still do today? It is wrong too, I think. In my oppinion, we just have to make a balance. Not "one over another", but "one in harmony with another". What do you think?

Quick comment

Skud,

Like the wiki. You've made it fair and informative. Keep up the good work!

I'll keep fixing as I run across stuff.

Ad free

Hi! Would you like this wiki to be ad-free? I'm looking for wikis to be part of a new program which would remove all ads from the wiki for $19.95/month.

If you are interested, please be visit here to sign up. Let me know if you have any questions! - sannse (help forum | blog) 05:30, June 2, 2010 (UTC)

Template modifications

I've just updated Template:Triggerwarning and Template:Proposed feature article because they specified a background color but not a foreground color. Suffice it to say that my user-specified skin's default light grey is quite hard to read on light backgrounds! --Codeman38 05:52, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

And I've gotten Template:Disambig and Template:Delete as well. I'd go through the others, except I'm tired and need to go to bed... But yeah, specifying a background but not a foreground in a template is a huge accessibility issue for people using non-standard skins. --Codeman38 06:04, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

thanks for your note! It's me, Kiri :)

(waving wildly) SKUD! I'm a community manager at Wikia now! Sannse just mentioned this wiki as an example for something, and I got to be all "Hey! I know them!" -sarahdopp ... aka --Dopp WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 23:34, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

=Main Page Tweaks

Hello! My name is Nic and I'm a member of the Wikia Content Team. First of all, I want to congratulate you on having one of the most interesting uses of a wiki that I have seen. Secondly, I want to inform you that to ensure that your main page design continues to work properly with Wikia's ad policy, I'm going to make a few tweaks to it. I will try to keep it as close to the original as possible. Thanks for your hopeful cooperation and understanding. - Wagnike2 23:56, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

We seem to have a vandal or two

The concern troll, trigger warning, and accountability pages were vandalized from two different IPs. I've reverted it, but just a heads-up. Deist Zealot 06:19, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Skud - Missing you over here in SF. Can you email me info about where you are lurking in irc these days? I'm slowly coming back to life after the Baby Vortex. :) Librarianavenger 18:45, April 20, 2012 (UTC)

Geek Feminism Wiki admin rights

You have administrator rights on Geek Feminism Wiki.

You might find the following links useful:

Also keep an eye on:

If things get out of hand and you can't reach other admins, the next points of contact are:

Rape As Back Story TvTropes BY-SA

Content at Wikia is under the same licence as content at TVTropes (Tvtropes uses CC-BY-SA, as does Wikia unless GF uses a different license I'm not aware about). So the article shouldn't need the disclaimer, just attribution that it came from TVTropes in the first place. -- RandomTime 14:40, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Hello and Thank you!

Your site is a gold mine and helps define and validate much of what I've experienced in 12+ years as a developer. Thank you!

Missing External Link at Geeks are oppressed

Hello, I'd like to report one external link in Geeks are oppressed which is Additional reading: A Nice Guy State of Mind isn't available for view because it has been set as This blog is open to invited readers only. Thanks for the assistance. -- 139.228.16.14 16:21, January 13, 2013 (UTC)

Possible administrative issue

I think you should probably look at User:Monadic's actions considering he has been permanently banning a lot of IP addresses for unstated or extremely minor reasons without discussion or a method of appeal. While not explicitly against any rules, it could be harmful to the wiki in the long run and at least warrants a discussion. I posted my opinions on the matter on his talk page and also on an unlisted Pastebin. Due to the privacy concerns of my job, this account is anonymized through Tor and I won't be posting here again. - 85.93.218.204 20:56, November 5, 2013 (UTC)

Editorial guidelines being drafted

I'm leaving this message on all administrators' Talk pages. User:RickScott is leading the drafting of Meta:Editorial guidelines and it would be good if regular editors and admins could take a look and if need be add/edit/discuss so as to make them as useful as possible! Thanks. Thayvian (talk) 19:57, November 14, 2013 (UTC)

Dana McCallum rape arrest

Can you please make a page on Geek Feminism about noted women's rights activist and Twitter engineer Dana McCallum being arrested for rape and domestic violence charges? http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/transgender-womens-rights-advocate-and-prominent-twitter-engineer-charged-with-rape/Content?oid=2761316 and http://valleywag.gawker.com/respected-twitter-engineer-dana-mccallum-charged-with-r-1562193427

Why are the allegations against Schwern all over Geek Feminism but literally nothing about McCallum's rape arrest? McCallum is just as important/notable in the tech community AND the feminist/women's rights community. --24.97.201.230 10:34, April 24, 2014 (UTC)
